Commonly associated with Post-2008 Apple computers,
Mini DisplayPorts replaced the previously fitted Mini-DVI
ports. Mini DisplayPort is capable of driving resolutions up
to 2560×1600 commonly used by 30” monitors. The Mini
DisplayPort connector has recently been adopted by the
new Thunderbolt protocol and is still backwards compatible
with Mini DisplayPort. However Mini DisplayPort adaptors
and cables cannot be used for Thunderbolt purposes
since active cabling technology is used to enable the high
10Gbps data rates.
