Do we offer Duty Free?
Yes, given that it meets the conditions of customs, you can claim back your 10% duty.
It's called the Tourist Refund Scheme and requires that you:
- Spend $300 (GST inclusive) or more in the one store and retain your invoices.
- Have purchased the goods no more than 60 days before your departure from Australia.
- Wear or carry the goods on board the aircraft or ship and present them along with your original tax invoice, passport and international boarding pass to a Customs and Border Protection Officer at a TRS facility.
Bring your receipt and item to the airport or port, clear customs and visit the Tourist Refund Office. Present the goods and invoice and they should be able to refund the GST on your credit card, write a cheque or EFT a payment! Although it is called the Tourist Refund Scheme, it is open to all Australian residents as well as overseas visitors.
Information on this page is current as of 03/09/2013, but these schemes often change, so before you make a decision, please contact Customs for more information. Find more about the Tourist Refund Scheme on the Customs website.
