Win for Punters
|
“The WIN 1X is designed to receive programs broadcast in the standard definition digital TV format - a point worth making, given Australia's two-tiered digital TV transmission system broadcasts programs in two levels of quality: High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD). HD programs require a HDTV-capable set-top box and a compatible TV or display monitor such as a plasma set or video projector. The WIN 1X is built to work, and work well, with the kind of standard TV set owned by most viewers. As long as a TV has a set of RCA composite audio-video input - and most TVs built within the last 12 years do - it will connect to the WIN 1X. And for videophiles looking for the best picture quality, the WIN 1X also sports S-Video, component, and RGB via the European 21-pin SCART connector. The Wintal is fairly easy to set up. Tuning in the stations using the on-screen menu takes less than a couple of minutes.” |
“Once wired and fired - via S-Video and set to 16:9 widescreen
mode - the Wintal has a very pleasing picture quality with plenty
of detail and a good spread of colours.
While it did lose colour every now and then, this proved to be a minor issue which was quickly solved by a call to the Wintal helpline on 9321 8370. The solution was as easy as going into the Wintal's menu and changing the signal output setting from CVBS to RGB. The Wintal also carries a second scart connection for another audio-video signal. Also quite nifty is the RF aerial pass-through that allows you to record a digital TV program while you're watching a different analog channel.” |
